Since 2010 I’ve been participating in the “Ethno” Global music gatherings, first as a participant, and now as an organizer and Artistic Mentor
Check their webpage at https://ethno.world
At the core of the Ethno is its democratic, peer-to-peer learning approach whereby young people teach each other the music from their countries and cultures.
Ethno Chile
Ethno Chile started in 2015 under the name “ChilEtno”, and since 2021 it’s officially part of the Ethno World network.
Other Ethno experiences
In July 2022, Ethno Artistic Mentors from all over the globe met in Banyoles, Spain, for the first “Ethno Artistic Mentors Think-Up”.
It was a very intense week in which we discussed how we could improve the Ethno experience.
We also got the chance to play together and give a wonderful concert, to which I contributed as Music Coordinator.
Ethno Sweden started it all in 1990, and I was honored to collaborate as a volunteer in 2022
With over 60 participants from 5 continents, Ethno Sweden remains one of the most relevant Ethno gatherings.
We managed to get a grant from the Chilean Ministry of Arts and Cultures to be able to attend with another 5 fellow Chilean musicians.
Antonio, our guitar player, also got chosen as part of the Ethno on the Road band! They toured in October 2022 with 7 top musicians. Congratulations!
Ethno Denmark 2018 was a great experience, in which I was lucky enough to collaborate as one of the Artistic Mentors.
We were 5 Chileans in total, all from the band Ensamble Transatlántico de Folk Chileno, and we were sponsored by the Chilean Ministry of Arts and Cultures.
Ethno India 2016 was by far one of the most intense experiences of my life
The music, the people, the food… what’s not to like about India!
The Chilean delegation was sponsored by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was a lot of work to write that grant application, but totally worth it!
After Ethno India, we gave a concert at Depot 48, and the Piano Man Jazz club
They were amazing, the Indian audience is sooo enthusiastic!
We also gave some workshops in New Delhi
At Saraswati Music College, and a really moving one for the children from the Music Basti project.
Finally, we toured Jaipur, Pushkar, and Jaisalmer
It was a month full of adventures that we will never forget!
